Enrique is now an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Northeastern University, Cambridge, MA, USA.

Enrique is broadly interested in understanding the mechanics of geomaterials with a particular focus on failure, fracture, and strain localization. He is also interested in discontinuum modeling of granular materials and in geomechanics applications in tectonics and geophysics across spatial scales. During his doctoral research, he worked on developing a meshfree computational framework for modeling the deformation of fluid-saturated geomaterials over large strains and the post-failure behavior of engineered earth structures. His research also involved numerically modeling faults and deformation bands, contributing to improved CO2 sequestration and hydrocarbon extraction capabilities.​

Outside of research, he enjoys reading about politics, history, and current events, as well as playing soccer and tennis.
